Submissions
General Submissions Guidelines

We prefer a cover letter in the body of the e-mail with the submission provided as an attachment in RTF. Please note in the subject line if the e-mail is for a submission of flash fiction, fiction, poetry, review, essay, or something else, or if it is a query regarding our interest in same.
All works will be accepted or declined on an ongoing basis. Publication occurs quarterly on the 1st of the month. Our upcoming issues are due out 1 August 2008, 1 November 2008, and 1 February 2009.
Payment for all accepted submissions is $5.00 in cash via PayPal, or a gift certificate worth $5.00 to the Drollerie Press Bookshop, or an interior advertisement in the issue in which your work appears, as available. If you choose the advertisement, you are responsible for providing it, but you may request assistance if necessary. If your provided advertisement does not fit with our aesthetic or quality guidelines, we will provide one in its place.
Spotlight!
We are interested in essays from authors, editors, publishers, other industry professionals, or avid readers showcasing a particular genre, school of criticism, current event, issue, website, or personality. The essays should be between 5 and 20k words, though we are willing to be flexible.
Our author spotlight is written by the author and is an essay regarding the books and authors that have influenced the author and the author’s work. For more information please e-mail us at our submissions e-mail address. Accepted spotlights receive $5.00 and an advertisement.
Fiction
Fiction submissions must be no more than 5k words and must treat with the theme of the issue. The fiction can be written or recorded in MP3 format. The upcoming theme will always be announced in this section. The theme for our winter issue is “Our Glorious Future or Steampunk” meaning that the work should have some futuristic or steampunk element in it, and that, all other things being equal, we will probably accept the work that somehow says something about our current society while playing with one or both of those themes over the light-hearted adventure.
When we accept a story, we request an archive time of 6 months. After 6 months, we will remove it from our archive at your request. If we accept your story, we request that you also provide a short bio, a list of your works and where they may be purchased or acquired, and a link to your website for inclusion in the contributors section of the publication.
Flash Fiction
For our publication, we prefer flash fiction of 500 words or shorter. We request an archive length of 6 months. After 6 months, we will remove it from our archive at your request. Please provide a short bio, a list of your works and where they may be purchased or acquired, if possible, and a link to your website.
Poetry
Poetry submissions must also be written around the theme of the issue. The theme for our winter issue is “Our Glorious Future or Steampunk”. When we accept a poem, we request an archive time of 6 months. After 6 months, we will remove it from our archive at your request.
Art
If you would like us to consider including your art in our publication, please send a low-res version no more than 96 dpi and no larger than a print size of 6 inches wide by 6 inches high. Anything larger than 200-250 pixels wide, if accepted, will be published in a clickable thumbnail format. We actually prefer the clickable thumbnail, as it improves the impact of the image when the reader clicks and is able to see the image alone.
Music
Music will be accepted at the rate of $5.00 per MP3 recording. In particular, we are looking for unusual music that fits with our style, and that will best exemplify your work. A link to your website and a profile of the artist will be included. Your website should provide a way for our visitors to listen to at least one additional song for free, but that is not required. A link to where your work can be purchased is also requested.
Book Reviews
If you are interested in providing book reviews or would like to provide your book for review, please see the review guidelines page.
